Title: Blues
Medium: Mixed Media
Size: 60cm x 90cm

Born in March 1998, Erinah Fridah Babirye is a full-time mixed-media artist based in Kampala, Uganda. She attended the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art, Makerere University, Uganda in 2017.

Through her artwork, she sets out to address the relationship between plants and humans and the need to safeguard the environment and natural heritage. Inspired by flora and fauna, which are a common theme in her artwork, these are often set against the human face or features in the backdrop so as to provide a successful depiction of the relationship between nature and humanity.

Regarding her entry artwork, she had the following to say: “Blues – was inspired by wildfires and the concept of destruction. One of the focal points of this piece is the disregard for the protection of our environment. The leaves which cover the child seek to emphasize the importance of nature and its dominating presence. The expressionless face, which has been drawn in shades of blue is evocative of regret/disappointment” – Erinah Fridah Babirye
