Born, in June 1996, Henry Kiyingi is a full-time artist based in Kampala, Uganda. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Art and Industrial Design from Kyambogo University, Uganda. He has worked at various art studios and art spaces including Art Bond Uganda and Hatimax Art Space, among others.

His entry artwork was part of his body of works under the theme ‘Olwokano’ (the Race or contest). The said series, depicts the political situation in several African countries as men and women of various political views, ideology and background embark on a race to occupy political office in their countries. He notes that:

“Many events happen during this period, which include: losing lives, divisions among people, and corruption among others. These events inspired OLWOKANO.

The collapse of the traditional ways of life that portray societies with their cultures, the natural environment and pressure that the modern life demands us is the inspiration of Henry Kiyingi, the artist sees himself as an observer in this dynamic environment packed with a series of events that are rapidly happening.” – Henry Kiyingi
