Winners of the MMA Prize 2022

Congratulations to Sandra Suubi, the Winner of the MMA Prize 2022.

Her entry artwork ‘Samba Gown I, II, III’ selected under the medium of Photography and Wearable Sculpture is part of a broader performance piece by the artist, re-enacting and rethinking the bride’s walk down the aisle but using the streets of Kampala. The artwork seeks to encourage dialogue among Ugandan men and women on the traditions, cultural and social expectations around the institution of marriage within their society. The performance also raises an inquiry on wastefulness in the wedding and wedding gown industry.

The Runner Up for the MMA Prize 2022 is Agaba Solomon Peabo, a photography and digital artist for his artwork entitled ‘Hope’.

“The streets inspire my work because on the streets you see life, pain, suffering, hard work and even chaos. But it is a beautiful chaos I see. On this artistic odyssey, I seek to use my dreams for a better Africa as the foundation to create, innovate and inspire.” – Agaba Solomon Peabo.

The Second Runner Up for the MMA Prize 2022 is Andrew Onono, for his artwork entitled ‘Relieved’.

In my current artwork, I am focusing on a therapeutic journey to bring together different expressions and inner thoughts that most people find a little hard to verbally put across. My paintings delve into the reality of emotions which explore inner feelings that are essential to validation and acceptance.” – Andrew Onono.
