Born in August 1994, Ethel Aanyu is a full-time artist based in Kampala, Uganda. She holds a Bachelor of Industrial and Fine Arts degree from Makerere University, Uganda. Her practice is inspired by the use of storytelling to provide hope and keep dreams alive. Hence her series of artworks that embodies ‘stories in one frame.
“The human mind is riveted by stories irrespective of whether it is an Aesop’s fable or a friend’s own experience. However, are words the only medium through which stories can be conveyed? Absolutely not! So, through mixed media, I share my thoughts, ideas and perceptions of the reality with others.
‘Stories in one frame’ involves telling stories that keep dreams alive. Within my community, the stories not only allow us to learn from each other but to also share experiences that nurture our hope with the assurance that we are not alone.”- Ethel Aanyu
