Born in 1995, Nicole Remus is a visual artist and budding curator based in Jinja, Uganda. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture at Makerere University, Uganda and is the visual art director at the Creative Tribe (Uganda) where she also attends to the curating and setting up of its monthly PopUp gallery. Her entry artwork is part of a series that explores identity.

“The pieces are photographs taken of myself and my significant other through a mirror. I took the mirror and scratched out parts of it (in form of a face) such that the person holding the mirror could be seen through the person taking the photograph. The subject and the artist are one.” – Nicole Remus

She adds that: “These self-portraits express the idea of how one person’s identity can be wrapped up in who they are with. So often, we cannot grasp who we are and we find ourselves adapting, altering, even growing into different people. We sometimes find our identities intricately woven into other people’s. These portraits seek a new way to show a relationship with all its complexities.”
