Born in July 1997, Eric Joe Gayi is a full-time artist residing in Entebbe, Uganda. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Industrial Art & Design degree from Nkumba University, Uganda. His practice largely focuses on creating ballpoint pen drawings on paper with a technique that blends surrealism and hyperrealism.
”Through my use of hyperrealistic art, I set out to deliver art that seeks to confront the injustice perpetuated by self-proclaimed hierarchical powers over the subaltern black identity—a struggle that echoes through history and persists into contemporary times.
